So I was taking a phlebotomy course and I thought I stuck myself with a needle because when i picked up the cleaning wipes to wipe down the chair after realeasing the patient my thumb started to burn I hadn't switched gloves yet or anything and I freak out and took the gloves off instead of looking for a puncture in them and when I did there was no bleeding or anything but what looked like a paper cut I showed my instructor and she said that there was no blood from me so to just wash my hands. I did not push it up the chain like I should have and so now i have waited 3 months and will be testing for diseases on my own dime. What are your thoughts? is three months enough time to make sure I'm okay when I'm not sure I got stuck with the needle or do I need to test again at the 6 and 12 month mark as indicated by usual needlestick protocols. Any feedback is appreciated sorry I know this is a sexual health website but I thought this would be helpful...
